SPEAKING, SPEAKING ABOUT & TALKING

Updated: Oct 5, 2023

Speaking - Transformational Distinctions

"Talking" refers to the physical act of producing sounds and words with the mouth.

When we are “talking about” something, we use descriptive language. Similar to “speaking about” something, both serve as a means to express thoughts, opinions, or facts about something that already exist.

In a transformational context, "speaking" is distinct from “speaking about” and, instead of being descriptive, it involves a generative use of language. It goes beyond simply speaking about something and instead points to the essence of the person that can be experienced beyond words through demeanor, energy, body language, posture and actions. In transformational trainings, we often refer to that which can be experienced as a result of our speaking as ‘way of being’. Thus speaking is epitomized by both talking the talk and walking the walk.

Speaking in this context, is a powerful tool for transformation because it has the ability to create, evoke and invent something out of nothing and holds the potential to shape our reality and actualize our intentions. Through speaking, we harness the ability to shape our being and transform our lives.

Who you are speaks so loudly I can't hear what you're saying.
