ACCOUNTABLE

Updated: Oct 5, 2023

Accountable - Transformational Distinctions

Being accountable in a transformational context means acknowledging and taking ownership of our past choices, actions, and inactions that contributed to a specific outcome or event. We fully account for it by saying, "I own it, I set it up, I created it." This perspective reflects the understanding that "I am causal in my life" and that our actions, or lack thereof, play a significant role in shaping our results and our experience. When we embrace accountability for our past, we reclaim our power and break free from a victim mentality.

Accountability for our past brings us to the present moment and creates a space for us to be responsible. It allows us to consciously author our lives and take charge of our future. Without being accountable for our past, we cannot fully assume responsibility for our future. If we look to the future and assert "If it's to be, it's up to me," while simultaneously attributing some of our past results or events to external factors, we fail to truly stand in responsibility. To be responsible means accepting full accountability for everything in our past so that we can consciously choose to "sponsor" our future, acknowledging our authorship and recognizing the power we hold to shape our lives.
